Businesses Are Typically Found on Downtown Streets in Older Cities
As people travel from city to city, they will begin to notice that the downtown areas of older, more established cities are occupied by many of the same businesses. Some smaller cities may have a Northern Kentucky Plumber or a Northern Kentucky Plumbing company that set up shop many years ago. In the slightly larger cities the make-up consists of many businesses that still may be family owned but operate on a larger level. These businesses, not only have years of continued success, they also help define and establish the credibility of the downtown area.
One business that is commonly found in established downtown area is a family owned and operated authentic restaurant. These establishments could serve Italian, Greek, German or Mexican food. Typically, generations of a family have passed down the ownership, responsibilities, recipes and pride that is found within the core of the business. This pride is evident to the patrons who frequent the restaurant, sometimes eating three or more meals a week there. These patrons are treated like family and are as much a part of the dynamic of the business as the owners themselves.
Another business that many downtown areas may have is a smaller, more custom hardware shop. These shops feature paints, tools, yard stuff and other home necessities. The owner is typically on-site and willing to offer assistance whenever needed. Family generally operates the finances, stocks the shelves and waits on customers as well. The feeling a patron gets here is priceless as compared to when they are in a larger store, like a Home Depot. Shopping is more personalized and there is always someone to lend a helping hand or carry goods out to a car. If someone has a household repair, they can generally go to these hardware shops and receive instruction as well as the appropriate materials to fix the problem.
A third business typically found in downtown areas of older neighborhoods is a local pharmacy. Again, these businesses are generally owned and operated by the original family who created the business in the first place. Most of the time, the pharmacist is the founder and continues to serve patrons on a daily basis. These types of pharmacies carry all the same medications are their larger counterparts, like Walgreens or CVS. However, the overall shopping experience is much more personalized and filled with greater customer service. Often times the pharmacist will know a persons complete medical history and is an integral part in how medication is understood.
A fourth business found in established cities downtown areas is a local bakery. This is the type of place where donuts, pastries, cakes and cookies are made with fresh ingredients and by hand every morning. They typically dont make huge batches of their products and when they run out people have to wait another day. These bakeries feature recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Often times the person creating the products has been taught by their elder family members. This is the kind of bakery where there is only one location, serving the same products year after year and generally the baked goods are delicious.
